Furniture is in, and Adrian and Mack are trying to get settled. Some photos of what they've done...

Sitting room or formal living room

Drapes and accents are up in the dining room, but it will become a storage room for the kitchen cabinetry before it can be put together.

The new vestibule- Leads to the master suite. Created from a coat closet and a small portion of the laundry room.

Master bedroom turned out to be a wonderful retreat, even after taking 11' away to make the study. It's still spacious, and the entry from the vestibule (created from the closet and laundry room) makes it feel much more private than entering off the dining room did.

Kitchen cabinetry was delivered! Now someone comes to inspect it before someone else comes to install it. Nothing fast about this process!!

Adrian and Mack are in their new home, but there is still some work to be done.

The Past 10 Days

A lot has taken shape over the last 10 days. The camera really doesn't do it all justice! We're in the final stretch now- Moving day is this coming Saturday!

The garage is gone!

A new door casing frames the new door into the master suite.

This is the view from the kitchen doorway. The 1/2 wall that will be a breakfast bar is taking shape. The old wall had to be completely removed due to wood rot underneath. The room on the other side will be the den.

In the library, the new mantel is being constructed. The air vent was moved to the center. A ceiling light with its very own switch was installed, as were a couple of electrical outlets.

The new front door! Found at a salvage yard, it should be just the thing to replace the existing door.

The travertine shower is under construction in the guest bath.

A Weekend of Demolition

The sunroom is gone!

The garage is next!

A full load of debris-

Gutters will be repaired/replaced.

A new sealant, screen and rain guard were installed on and around the chimney today, since the weather finally got above 50!

It has only been a week!

We closed on the house one week ago today, and look at all of the work that has been done!

Almost clean porch.

Side yard has had bricks, cynder blocks, and shabby landscaping timbers removed. Look how much cleaner it looks already!

It has to get worse before it can get better!

The builder has begun his part of the demolition. The bookcases on either side of the fireplaces are gone, and the doorway that will go on the left side of the fireplace is in the process of being cut. The wood floor did not continue under the book cases, so it will have to be patched.

The builder has set up shop in the master bedroom/library area for now. He is trying to salvage the existing doorframe from the door that will be walled up.

The kitchen is now a blank slate, except for the sink. It will stay until the last possible minute to give everyone a place to wash the grime off. The tile guy will start working on removing the existing floor over the weekend.

The guest bathroom has a plastic-type shower surround that we removed this morning. Squirrels had made their home in the 3" space between the bottom of the shower pan and the subfloor of the house. All of their pecan shells were still under there, though the actual critters were not, thank goodness. As Adrian said, a squirrel is just a rat with better PR! GROSS!

While the master bath didn't have rodents, it does have water damage. The lower portion of the wood frame for the master shower will be replaced before it is rebuilt by the tile guy. The jetted tub is on its way out, and the bathroom vanity is already gone. The faux wood floor tiles will come up this weekend, and new tile will be laid in its place.

The book cases will be removed. A doorway will be cut on the left side of the fireplace. It will connect to the new library (see below). A search for a new front door has begun.

The dining room connects the front living room to the kitchen.

The Kitchen Before

A brand new, sleek kitchen is in the works. The pictures can't begin to capture how dirty this kitchen is. Look closely at the paint above the cabinets. It is stained from the years of cooking.

The refridgerator is getting moved to the wall where the desk is, and the wall where the refridgerator currently is located will get knocked down to create a great room/open plan kitchen with the den.

The range was connected with an electrical cord- a major no-no.

The den got a new ceiling fan today. The hardwood floors will be refinished, and a breakfast bar will be created to create a great room between the den and the kitchen. This is the view you will see from the kitchen.

Master Bedroom/Library Project

The master bedroom made up nearly 1/4 of the house. Instead of using so much space in one room, a separate library/study is being created out of 1/3 of the room. The fireplace will fall in the library side. A doorway will be cut from the living room through to the library on teh right side of the fireplace.

Right now it is all opened up into one huge room. The wall to divide will be constructed later this month. Carpet will be laid in the master bedroom, and hopefully the wood floors can be refinished in the library.

The current door to the bedroom enters from the dining room. It will be closed off later this month.
A new entry via a small vestibule/hallway will be created out of the linen closet, which is behind the door to the left in this photo.

The new ceiling fan was hung today in the master bedroom!

The master bathroom is incredibly large for a home that was built in the 20's. We think it might have been an entire room at one point in time- perhaps the kitchen on the other side of the duplex?

Demolition of just about everything is in progress!

This is the guest bedroom- the least offensive room in the home, I'd say. It's a great size, and has lots of natural light. There is wood flooring under the carpet that we hope to save.

The guest bathroom is getting a complete overhaul.

New shower, new sink, new light, new mirror, new tile...

The demolition has begun! The wallpaper will start coming down tomorrow.
